Off-Grid Power Systems
An off-grid property has to produce, store, and manage all of its power on site.
We design complete systems around actual electrical loads, seasonal solar production, battery storage, generator support, and how the property needs to operate.
Solar Generation
Solar is typically the primary energy source for an off-grid system.
The array is designed around energy use, seasonal production, battery charging requirements, available space, and expected operating conditions.
Battery Storage
Battery storage supplies the property when solar production is unavailable or insufficient.
Capacity is designed around overnight use, reserve requirements, expected loads, and the amount of generator dependence that is acceptable.
Generator Integration
A generator provides an additional energy source during extended periods of poor solar production, unusually high loads, maintenance, or other operating conditions.
Proper integration allows the generator to support the system and recharge the batteries when needed.
Load Management
Available power is finite in an off-grid system, making load management an important part of the design.
Critical and noncritical loads can be prioritized so the property operates within the capabilities of the inverter, batteries, solar array, and generator.
Microgrids & Multi-Building Systems
Larger properties may require multiple buildings, multiple sources of generation, larger battery systems, generators, and centralized controls.
These can be designed as one coordinated power system rather than a collection of separate pieces of equipment.
Off-Grid New Construction
Off-grid properties are significantly easier to design properly when the power system is considered before the electrical and mechanical systems are finalized.
We can help coordinate electrical loads, HVAC, water heating, well pumps, appliances, generator capacity, equipment locations, energy efficiency, and other major design decisions.
